PYEWACKET finishing off Diamond Head during the 2019 Transpac — a tribute to the fleet spirit behind this genteel but deadly sport.
Conducted every two years by the Transpacific Yacht Club, the legendary race spans 2,225 nautical miles from Point Fermin in Los Angeles to Honolulu, challenging sailors with rough seas, crosswinds, and powerful currents in one of the world’s most demanding offshore competitions.
This work depicts Roy Disney’s custom Volvo 70, one of the leading vessels of the 2019 Transpac race. Yet beyond speed and competition, Pyewacket’s legacy reflects the deeper values of offshore racing.
In July 2019, during the 50th Transpac, Pyewacket demonstrated extraordinary seamanship and sportsmanship when she abandoned the race to rescue the nine-person crew of the competing yacht OEX, which suffered catastrophic rudder failure and began sinking 200 miles offshore. The dramatic nighttime rescue remains a powerful reminder that, above all, the spirit of the fleet comes first.
A celebration of courage, camaraderie, and the finish they deserved.
